A couple might be experiencing low to extreme problems and stressors. These stressors may include financial struggles, intimacy issues, infidelity and trust issues, illness or death, domestic violence, an acting out teenager, dysfunctional communication interactions, and heated arguments. The purpose of couples therapy is to offer alternatives to both partners for emotional healing.
I help partners understand what has been going on in their relationship, how each contributes to it and how it happened. The focus is on improving partner communication skills to articulate what he or she wants and how to do it. The end result is for the couple to decide on what and how they would change their relationship to make them both happier.
I can also provide family therapy with one person, particularly if a parent is having difficulty with emotions and relationship with a son or a daughter. My aim is to assist the individual parent to recognize that their child has his or her own needs, power, and shortcomings. And, the individual parent will be able to initiate positive changes in the family, as well as within his or her own life.
